Inhalte
Lecture of Agroforestry and Crop production Part Agroforestry The main topics are: land use systems, agroforestry systems, biomass production, principles of cereal, oil seed and legume production, establishment of crop rotations, production physiology of trees and crops, nutrient cycling, nutrient use efficiency, water use efficiency, fertilization, tree-crop-interactions, effects on soil quality, humus accumulation, reduction of erosion and biomass yield, design of agroforestry systems, ecosystem services and life cycle assessment, aspects of bioeconomy in terms of renewable energy resources Part Seminar The seminar exersises are designed to master various aspects of research topics in agroforestry. Evaluation of case studies is carried as a task-based learning to interpret research results and to identify potential lack in knowledge.
Lernziele
Rationale The modul aims on the development of agroforestry design and management and provides an overview of the basic and applied research approaches in agroforestry systems. Interactions in the soil-plant-system of agroforestry are used as a cross- cutting issue to link scientific theories and practical consequences. Based on actual research projects main processes in the soil-plant-system are studied and evaluated. Advanced exercises provide knowledge in modelling of carbon sequestration and plant growth. Lecture of Agroforestry and Crop Production Students will • understand agroforestry as a sustainable land use system adapted to different agricultural practices and landscapes in temperate regions • understand the incorporated features and practices that contribute to environmental sustainability and economic viability given by different agroforestry systems • apply the principles of interactions in the soil-plant-system in order to • design agroforestry systems with various management options and targets of wood production Seminar Agroforestry and Bioenergy Students will be able to • describe soil-plant interactions in agroforestry systems • describe how and where agroforestry systems potentially implemented in landscapes and farming systems • interprete case studies of research and development in agroforestry • apply basic principles of biomass modeling use and understand the basic concepts of ecosystem services and life cycle assessment
