Modern Concepts of Materials Design
Moderne Konzepte der Materialentwicklung
6 LPWiSeEN
Inhalte
• Experimental design, record-keeping, handling of chemicals and hazardous substances • Setting up apparatus for chemical material synthesis • Preparation of materials in the field of chemical material synthesis • Characterisation of synthesised materials and discussion of the results
Lernziele
Upon completion of the module, students will be familiar with various techniques for the chemical preparation and characterisation of materials and their precursors. This includes the safe use of various glassware and laboratory equipment, the assembly of chemical apparatus, and the safe handling of hazardous substances in accordance with applicable legislation. In addition, students will be introduced to current topics in chemical materials research. Through active engagement in discussions, students acquire personal skills relevant to their degree programme. They are able to work on and discuss basic questions relating to materials chemistry in small student groups or research groups.
Prüfungsleistung
1. Conducting chemical experiments (6-9), including the associated reports; marked (70%) 2. Colloquium consisting of a presentation (15 mins) and a discussion (10 mins); marked (30%)
Literatur (1)
- Scientific literature on the research topics of the Institute's working groups
Bemerkungen
Students perform the practical course either within a working group of the Institute of Materials Chemistry of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg or conduct experiments in a teaching lab, based on their prior knowledge and educational background. In the practical course, they either focus on fundamental laboratory experiments to learn general and specific laboratory techniques, or undertake simple research tasks in the field of materials chemistry. This module is a prerequisite for module 14777 ”Advanced Organic and Polymer Synthesis”
