Voraussetzungen
Empfohlen, im Wortlaut
Basic knowledge in chemistry, phyical chemistry, and engineering mathematics
Inhalte
• Contaminant types such as organics, heavy metals, micro plastics etc. • Solute partitioning between solid, gaseous and aqueous phase • sorption, ion exchange and complexation modelling • sorption in heterogeneous media • sorption and desorption kinetics • describing heterogeneity with discrete and continuous distributions • nonlinear chromatograhy • transport phenomena in multicomponent systems including advection, diffusion and advection-dispersion • deriving risk assessment tools of offsite movement of contaminants such attenuation factor
Lernziele
After participating in the module, students should be able to • classify contaminants into different groups • assess interaction of contaminants with the solid phase of surface and subsurface environments such as soil and groundwater • quantify equilibrium reaction of sorption, ion exchange, complex formation in aqeous solution and surfaces, preciptiation and dissolution reactions • develop a basic understanding of kinetics of contaminant retention and release • describe transport processes of contaminants • account for substrate heterogneity • understand concepts of risk assessment of contaminant movement
