Inhalte
• Neurons as constituents of biological neuronal networks • Synapses: the connection between neurons, more than just a summation point • The role of dendritic trees and neuron morphology • Examples of biological neuronal networks: the cerebellum, the head direction cell system, the hippocampus, cortical columns, etc. • Experimental approaches to understanding biological neuronal networks • Theoretical and computational approaches
Lernziele
After successfully completing the module, students will be familiar with major topics of the current state of knowledge on biological neuronal networks from the neuroanatomical and neurophysiological point of view and to leading theoretical concepts about how biological neuronal networks operate and fulfill their diverse functions.
Prüfungsleistung
• written exam, 120 min. OR • oral examination, 30-45 min. In the first class meeting it will be announced whether the examination is to be taken in written or oral form.
