Prerequisites
Mandatory, as written
No successful participation in associated follow-up module • 11689 Power Generation from Wind EnergyAS WELL AS in associated phase-out modules • 35415 Technology for Decentralized Power Generation and Storage 1AND • 35435 Renewable Generation and Storage of Electrical Energy.
Recommended, as written
Basic understanding in electrical engineering
Contents
• RE-technologies: Hydro power, Wind power, Photovoltaic, Solar-thermal power plants, Geothermal power plants, Tidal power plants • Overview about the resources and accessible potentials • Physical basics • Availability, efficiencies and ranges of power output of existing and prospective plants • Problems of grid integration of fluctuating RE-units • Storage of electrical energy: Pumped-hydro plants, CAES-plants
Learning outcomes
Students have in-depth knowledge of different technologies for utilisation of renewable energies for power generation. They can evaluate the different technologies with regard to their advantages and disadvantages for the operation of the electrical power grids. The interdisciplinary connections between the operation of power grids and the operation of RE technologies are taught in depth and can be assessed by the students. They are able to make well-founded judgements about energy supply concepts based on renewable energies.
Assessment
