Introduction in Electrical Power

Einführung in elektrische Energiesysteme

6 CPWinterEN

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

Basic understanding in electrical engineering

Contents

Structure of power systems: • Generation • Transmission • Distribution • Consumption Main components: • Power plans (conventional and renewable) • Generators • Transformers • Power lines (overhead lines & cables / HVAC & HVDC) • Calculation basics of power system • Operation under normal and fault conditions • Management and processes of electrical power systems • Integration of renewable energy sources

Learning outcomes

The students are able to distinguish and reflect on the relationships between the different fields of the electrical power supply. In addition to the different types of generation, the students can also analyse the various grid types with their different operating elements. Furthermore, the students can also recognise influences on the power quality and evaluate them accordingly.

Assessment

• Written examination, 90 minutes OR • Oral examination, 30 minutes The respective regulations for the semester will be announced in the first course week.

Literature (1)
  • Script in moodle

Remarks

• The lecture will give a short introduction to students with bachelor degrees in electrical engineering (or others), who had no subjects in electrical power engineering in their undergraduate programmes • registration for this module in moodle • different forms of teaching are announced in moodle
