6 CPWinterEN
Prerequisites
Recommended, as written
Fundamentals in electrical engineering
Contents
• Definition of power electronics • Components and their static and transient behaviour • Circuit topologies as grid commutated converter • Self commutated converter • Dc-dc-converter • Resonant and quasi-resonant converter • Single and three phase applications • Characteristic values of components and topologies • Cooling • Passive components and filters • Firing • Driver and protection devices • Pulse-width-modulation • Simulation tools
Learning outcomes
Students learn to understand the functional principle of power electronics, their specific components, control structures and the characteristic behaviour. They are able to find suitable concepts and define components and auxiliaries for power converters.
Assessment
Prerequisite: • Successful completion of the laboratory work Final Module Examination: • Written examination, 90 minutes
