Research Methodology: • Hydrodynamic basic equations: Euler, Navier-Stokes, continuity, energy, concentration(s); Surface waves: Potential flow, deep and shallow water, solitones, Tsunamis, capillary waves; Instabilities: general principles, bifurcation theory, classification; Unstable systems: Kelvin-Helmholtz, Rayleigh-Taylor, convection, mixtures, thin films. • Typical working steps in a research project, reserach project reports and poster, reserach presentation and journal papers. Presentation of actual research projects from EuroAquae partners and alumni as well as external partners (e.g. PIK, GFZ, UFZ, TU Berlin/Kompetenzzentrum Wasser, IGB) in seminars, identification of Master Thesis topics for Semester 4 European Language skills: • German Language course, optional courses on other European languages except English.
Learning outcomes
Research Methodology: • Understanding waves and instabilities in advanced hydrodynamics. • Research projects: preparedness to scientific work, research oriented presentation and documentation skills, identification of research oriented master thesis topics. European Language skills (except English).
Assessment
Research Methodology: • Assignments (50%) and written (120 min) or oral (30-45 min) examination (50%) European Language skills: • Assessment / examination mode of the related language course The details and weighting of the different assessment elements are determined in the first lectures.
