Contents
• CONCEPTS IN CLIMATOLOGY: Weather and Climate. Global and regional climate. ENSOs. Average rainfall and temperature in a watershed. • CONCEPTS IN HYDROLOGY. Water Cycle. Hydrology. Ground-water resources, surface water, catchment yield, available water resources, ecological constraints. • WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE. The meaning of uncertainty in Water Resource Management. Climate Change Game. The XLRM method. • APPLICATONS. Dimensions of climate change. Long-term vulnerability analysis to climate change for cities in tropical countries.
Learning outcomes
The module provides tools that allow students to understand how the changing climate may affect the water supply. Students will learn the difference between weather and climate and will be able to identify the physical principles that drive the global climate. In addition, students will become able to apply methods to predict the stream flow of rivers by using climate data. With the link between climate and water supply, students will understand the main challenges society faces because of the impact of global warming on water resources. The last unit will show how to include climate change in water resource management.
