Pattern Formation and Nonlinear Dynamics I
Strukturbildung und nichtlineare Dynamik I
6 CPSummer (odd years)ENno longer offered
Prerequisites
Recommended, as written
• Sound knowledge of theoretical physics at or beyond the bachelor level.
Contents
• Phase transitions, linear stability analysis • Examples from population. dynamics, chemical oscillators • Bifurcations, chaos theory
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing the module, students are acquainted with the basics of pattern formation within theoretical and phenomenological aspects. They can use intuition, classification and integration of physical insight along the subject of the module. In addition, they apply social competences such as teamwork and persistence, but also individual competences as accuracy, curiosity, and working on one's own initiative have been supported.
Assessment
Prerequisite: • Successful completion of exercise assignments (75% must be reached)Final module examination: • Oral examination, 30-45 min.
Literature (3)
- H. Haken, Synergetics
- J. Argyris, Exploration of Chaos
- M. Bestehorn, Hydrodynamik und Strukturbildung
