Modern Discretization Methods

Moderne Diskretisierungsverfahren

6 CPirregularlyENno longer offered

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

Attendance at the modules belonging to the focus area „Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau 1“ and „Simulationsmethoden“, Knowledge of at least one programming language

Contents

The module will focus on the following contents: • Concepts for the description of geometry in design and analysis • Implementation of interpolation concepts in simulation frameworks • Theoretical formulation of novel element types • Implementation and validation of novel element formulations

Learning outcomes

Students will obtain state-of-the-art knowledge about the use and the formulation of modern discretization methods in the frame of the finite element method and/or other numerical solution procedures. Besides theoretical knowledge, which is conveyed in initial input lectures, students will learn how to implement these novel approaches in a numerical solution framework.

Assessment

• Implemented functions and modules for the numerical solution framework (50%) • Written elaboration of the selected topic, 20-30 pages (30%) • Oral presentation and discussion of the results of the written elaboration, 20 min. (20%)
