Stochastic Methods for Flow Simulations

Stochastische Methoden in der Strömungssimulation

6 CPevery semesterEN

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

Attending the “Turbulence Modeling” module in advance or in parallel is recommended.

Contents

The theoretically and numerically covered subjects are • stochastic mixing models (e.g. LEM and HIPS) • stochastic turbulence models (e.g. ODT and ODTLES) • pdf methods

Learning outcomes

After successful module participation the students are able to apply stochastic methods to numerical problems in fluid mechanics.

Assessment

• Oral examination (30-45 minutes)

Literature (3)
  • Stephen B. Pope, Turbulent Flows, 2000
  • Joel H. Ferziger, Numerische Strömungsmechanik, 2007
  • John L. Lumley, Stochastic tools in turbulence, 2007

Remarks

If required, individual questions can also be anwered in German.
