Action-oriented tasks for global, selective and detailed listening and reading comprehension, for the production of topic- and situation-related written texts, for topic- and situation-related oral expression as well as exercises for understanding and consolidating linguistic structures (vocabulary and grammar). Furthermore, learning strategies and techniques for self-study are imparted and trained. Repetition and consolidation of the basics of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation according to the needs of the course participants.

Learning outcomes

After finishing this course, participants can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, studys and job, leisure activities). They can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. They can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. (Compare can-do-statements CEFR A2) Finally, the participants will reflect the English culture in the context of the language course topics and their own backgrounds. After finalizing the module, they will understand main features and conventions of life styles in English-speaking countries.

Assessment

5 topic-related tasks or/and tests of 45-60 minutes each (each counting 20% for the module grade)

Remarks

• This modul especially aims at students in all study programs, who aspire a semester abroad, or exchange students with a low English language competence. It is not suitable for students with a lower or higher level higher than CEFR A1+/A2. • ONline enrolment/Moodle • In exceptional cases, the face-to-face course can be held as an online live session.
