Learning outcomes
After participating in the module, the students will be able to handle chemicals/hazardous substances correctly and safely. The students will be introduced to the practices of a chemical laboratory and acquire knowledge and competences at working independently in this field. Upon completion of the module, the students will be familiar with basic chemical equipment/apparatuses and will know how to use them in a targeted manner. The students will learn about basic experimental techniques and related safety aspects. Furthermore, they will be able to do simple stoichiometric calculations. The students will be able to record and critically evaluate their experimental results and know how to apply the acquired knowledge to other problems. Within this module, students will form small groups and engage into productive teamwork. This practice will encourage the students to participate in, as well as create academic discussions, which will sharpen their communicative and social skills.
Assessment
Writing lab protocols for each topic and 4 tests (60 minutes) of knowledge during the semester (50 %) Written examination (60 minutes) at the end of the semester (50 %)
