Representation of the compression process in the h/T-s diagram, maps, performance parameters, design process, operating behavior, aerodynamic phenomena, compressor test, service problems, life cycle

Learning outcomes

he module aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of compressor aerodynamics, covering theoretical foundations, practical design considerations, and the ability to analyze and improve compressor performance. By the end of the module, the students have acquired the knowledge of compressor design from preliminary sizing to detailed profile optimization. They have mastered calculation methods to assess the overall performance of compressors in terms of efficiency, surge margin, and stall characteristics. Furthermore, the students will be able to explore performance enhancement techniques and design modifications in different applications. From a practical point of view, the students will have the necessary skills to present compressor design findings and performance assessments, and to utilize technical language and graphical representations to convey complex aerodynamic concepts to stakeholders.

Assessment

• Final written exam, 90 min.
