12 CPirregularlyENno longer offered

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

Knowledge of topics of physics and electrical engineering at a level corresponding to the first four semesters of a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or corresponding to the level of a Bachelor’s degree in physics

Contents

• Design of an RF ASIC (practical work) • understanding the ASIC design workflow • simulating and optimizing integrated circuits • ASIC layout • Simulation-based performance evaluation of ASICs • understanding nonlinear and electromagnetic simulation tools for ASIC performance and yield prediciton • Electrical characterization of the fabricated circuits: theory and practice • Small- and large-signal on-wafer measurement techniques

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing the module, students are acquainted with both the theory and the practical work involved in application-based RF ASIC design as well as characterization of the fabricated circuits. They not only know how to acquire scientific knowledge but are also able to place phenomena related to the lecture topics into a more general context while exploring links between the different topics. In addition, students possess personal skills such as the capability for teamwork, precise reasoning, perseverance and openmindedness.

Assessment

• Written exam, 90 min.

Literature (1)
  • Will be announced during the first lecture: textbooks, scientific publications.

Remarks

• Study programme Micro- and Nanoelectronics M.Sc.: Compulsory elective module in complex „Circuit Design“
