Radio Frequency Application-Specific Integrated Circuit Design

Anwendungsspezifischer Hochfrequenz Schaltkreisentwurf

6 CPSummerEN

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

Knowledge of topics of physics and electrical engineering at a level corresponding to the first four semesters of a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or corresponding to the level of a Bachelor’s degree in physics

Contents

• Operation and applications of typical microwave circuits such as mixers, oscillators and broadband amplifiers. • Design methods for these circuits. • Limitations and non-linear effects. • Practical aspects of the design with a circuit simulator.

Learning outcomes

After successfully completing the module, students are familiar with basic concepts of RF-ASIC design. They will not only know how to acquire scientific knowledge, but will also be able to place phenomena related to the lecture topics in a more general context and explore connections between the different topics. In addition, students have personal skills such as teamwork, precise thinking, perseverance and open-mindedness.

Assessment

As part of the module, students learn in the form of three largely independent projects, each of which is dedicated to one type of circuit. The following are assessed for each of the three parts: • The results of the circuit design, demonstrated by submission of the simulation and evaluation file of the circuit simulator (50%) • A final report of max. 10 pages (50%) All three projects are weighted equally for the calculation of the overall grade.
