Fuel Cell Technologies

Brennstoffzellentechnologien

6 CPSummerEN

Prerequisites

Recommended, as written

• Technical thermodynamics

Contents

the principle of the fuel cell, the application of the fuel cell as an energy converter, basics of chemical reaction technology, efficiency determination, fuel cell systems, components of fuel cell systems, fuel systems and fuel preparation, systems and operating conditions for the use of fuel cell systems, electrical connection technologies, materials, safety technologies, emission reduction, hybrid technologies, ceramic electrolysis systems

Learning outcomes

After completing the module, students will be able to distinguish and analyse the technologies of different types of fuel cells. They will be able to describe the thermodynamic properties and behaviour of the different systems and calculate and classify performance and efficiency levels. In addition, you will learn about the use of different fuel systems and their processing, e.g. through reforming, in the individual fuel cell types. At the same time, you will be able to categorise the technologies in terms of their areas of application and define areas of use. You will also learn about materials, control systems and the electrical and gas connections of the systems. The module is aimed at acquiring engineering knowledge in the field of applied thermodynamics and chemical reaction technologies in the use of fuel cells. By learning how to implement technologies in technical apparatus, students should be able to evaluate fuel cell systems and select, construct, supply, operate and optimise them according to their possible applications. To this end, methods and technologies for increasing efficiency, exhaust gas and exhaust air treatment, process coupling and hybridisation are taught, with which components and systems can be improved. Finally, students are taught about manufacturing processes and relevant safety technologies.
