Shell and Membrane Structures
Schalen und Membranen
6 CPevery semesterENno longer offered
Contents
• Structural behaviour of shell structures, assumption of technical shell theory, membrane theory of revolving shells, bending theory of cylindrical shells, solution of selected structural shell problems, derivation of a finite element for revolving shells • Minimal surfaces, Linearisation (Force density method), geometric nonlinearity of deformations, Eigenfrequencies, Optimisation of Topology- and Boundary conditions, specifics of construction and detailing; special aspects of using Finite-Element software for structural analysis of shells
Learning outcomes
Basic knowledge of Structural analysis and design of shells, shaped with simple structures, ability for the formulation and solution of the principal differential equations. Application • Modelling of more complex structures and structural analysis by application of Finite-Element software within a project.Abilities • Getting well known, how to develop a suitable shape of shell in compliance with the used building material
Assessment
• Oral examination, 90 min.
