Contents

Introduction: Origin of aerosols. Effect of aerosols on health and climate. Basic properties of aerosols, equations of particle movement: sedimentation, diffusion, thermophoresis; forma-tion of aerosols: nucleation and growth, communition, dispersion of dusts; electric properties of aerosols, optical properties of aerosols with applications in aerosol measurement, indus-trial gas cleaning, clean room technologies; aerosol sampling and measurement by cascade impactor, diffusion battery, light scattering instruments, condensation nucleus counters, elec-trical mobility analyzer; gas cleaning by fibrous filters, regenerative filters, electric precipita-tion. Deposition of aerosols in the human airways.

Learning outcomes

Understand the physical behaviour of aerosol particles in the atmosphere and in technical processes, especially gas cleaning and aerosol measurement techniques. Get overview of the state of art in aerosol measurement and aerosol reduction.
