Learning outcomes
Biochemistry is the study of the chemical substances and vital processes occurring in living organisms. These include enzymes, lipids and proteins. Furthermore the basics of enzyme-kinetics and biochemical reactions will be taught. This lecture is to provide examples of systems in Biochemistry and Cell biology. The students are introduced into the specific aspects of organic life which are not found in the physical and abiotic aspects of nature. However, the starting point is the rules of the natural sciences of physics and chemistry, which serve as a key to the understanding of processes in beings. Thus, a matter driven approach is given to describe the typical requirements of organisms. During the last decades humans released unintentionally, in incidents as well as carelessly more and more different chemicals (very often organic chemicals) in the environment without knowing what could happen. Many of those pollutants are persistent and difficult to remove from the environment. Thus even only a smaller amount of chemicals is released in nowadays we still find remains from the past. Students will learn what problems can be caused by releasing substances in the environment Optionally, processes of Semiconductors and Nanotechnology will be shown, which will play a major role in the coming years. The production processes in these technologies are very special. Students will learn about these processes.
